The IUP-TV/The Swoop Internship is a non-profit program sponsored by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Communications Media Department located in Indiana, PA. This program allows students to create original media projects that tell stories highlighting the history, events, and organizations of the university and community. The materials found below are a product of faculty, interns, and student participants coming together and putting their best back into their community. As an intern for The Swoop during 2023, I gained a strong background in video, audio, graphics, photography, and general promotion by being allowed the opportunity to work with such assets in as professional an environment as possible. After working as an intern for 3 months, I was promoted to Production Coordinator, which was a role that I held from August 2023 until August 2024 when I finished my masters degree. Working as an intern and eventually a Production Coordinator for The IUP Communications Media department gave me a chance to work with professional organizations, as well as the university itself to give me a more diverse and sophisticated group of projects to showcase in future opportunities.
Below you can find a collection of work that I helped produce throughout my time working with The Swoop.
IRMC x IUP Podcast:
Rural Health Pulse
The first assignment I was given as an intern was to help edit and create graphics for the podcasts that IUP’s Communication Media Department produces in association with the Indiana Regional Medical Center, or IRMC. For the Rural Health Model episode, I created all of the on screen graphics, as well as contributed to the overall editing of the video. Due to my efforts on this episode, one of my duties as a Production Coordinator was to help coordinate, schedule, record, and produce an additional 8 episodes. The most recent being episode 7 of season 2, where I was tasked with storyboarding, scheduling, sourcing imagery, and piecing together the final project all within a deadline of 7 days.

Underground Railroad History Center
While working as an intern, our team was tasked with creating a promotional video for the Underground Railroad History Center in Blairsville, PA. My primary role for this project was to create a fresh logo that you see featured in the video for the first time. Aside from that I helped with the script writing for the narration as well as creating on screen graphics for the final video. This project has been posted on the Blairsville Underground Railroad History Center’s website, as a part of their conductors exhibit.

Weavers Perfect Memory
The former Vice President of Student Affairs at IUP and her husband, Rhonda and Alan Luckey, created a tool that makes it easier for a weaver to keep their place when weaving on a loom. Our team was tasked with creating a promotional video to spread the word around about this fantastic product. My role in the field for this project was just as important as my role behind the computer, as I captured many of the photos used in the video. Behind the scenes I helped write the script, sync the audio, and edit together the final cut.
One year later while I was working as a Production Coordinator, our team was once again tasked with developing a video for the Weaver’s Perfect Memory group. This video was not created to just promote the product, but to give an overview of the student involvement that has gone into assisting the production of the devices, as well as how they have promoted the product through various channels. The video was shown to IUP’s Council of Trustees to help them understand how the different departments within IUP interact and how these interactions can be beneficial to the university. The video was also used to introduce the device to those who had not heard of it, as special edition Weaver’s Perfect Memorys’ were handed out to IUP’s donors as gifts for their contributions in 2024.

Coalport Area Coal Museum
Our work with the Coalport Area Coal Museum began was I was an intern in June of 2023 and ran all the way through the end of my time as a Production Coordinator in August of 2024. It began as a short video overseeing Coalport as a town and their rich history of mining in the area. The video took almost 2 months to fully complete but it was extremely well received. The liked the product so much that they requested that we create more videos for them. This led us to creating mini documentaries delving into what entertainment was like in the town during the early 1900’s. They loved every piece of work we produced for them during my time with The Swoop and I believe the groups continued to collaborate even after I left.
You can find all of our videos we produced for them on their YouTube page here:

The Pennsylvania Chapter of the
American Planning Association:
City vision Video Series
During my time as a Production Coordinator for The Swoop, The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association tasked us with creating a set of seven short videos for them to post on their YouTube. The role I played in the production of this series was that of a project manager. I was there to assist with the filming of the videos, as well as contributed to the critiquing of the videos in each revision stage. I helped guide the team as they put together the videos in a professional manner.
